SCPRSA - one fine association who won’t fall for Mark Timms
Posted by Smartie on November 1, 2007I received an email overnight from Kelly Davis, of SCPRSA:
I want to thank you again for bringing to SCPRSA’s attention the controversy surrounding MyBowlAd. You will be pleased to know that our conference chair has replaced Mark Timms with another speaker for our luncheon next Friday.
I also want to clarify a couple of things for the record. First, Mark Timms was never going to be compensated to speak at our meeting. It is very rare for us to pay speakers. Second, the information in our brochure was taken from information that Mark provided to us. I doubt that there is time to correct that, so it may still be on our website for a couple of days until we close registrations for the conference.
In the spirit of cooperation in which we were willing to look into your concerns and take action accordingly, I would also request that Smartie update www.mybowladisascam.com to reflect the fact that we have chosen an alternate speaker for our event. SCPRSA is a 250-member organization of hard-working and sincere public relations professionals representing the non-profit, corporate, government, association and agency sectors across
South Carolina. Our organization and our members are committed to the ethical practice of public relations — not the cheap brand of publicity apparently practiced by others — and it has been quite difficult to see the name of our organization and our profession tarnished on www.votefortheworst.com and www.mybowladisascam.com. Our conference committee members are all volunteers who tried to put together the best program they could for this year’s conference, and they deserve credit not only for the time they have given to our organization, but also for being willing to evaluate the information that you presented and to take action to avoid putting SCPRSA and our conference attendees in an uncomfortable position.
All that said, I’ve been reading (OK, lurking!) the posts at www.votefortheworst.com and want to say that it’s very cool to see this online community rally around one of its own. I’d certainly love to have you guys on my side if I ever needed backup. I do hope Smartie gets to make her trip to the U.S. so she can meet the people who have been so supportive of
her through the whole experience.
Best wishes to you all,
Kelly
I am so pleased Mark Timms will not be able to spread his lies further, and I am so pleased SCPRSA will not be associated with this scam of a company that is MyBowlAd LLC.
My reply to Kelly
Good morning Kelly,
that’s fabulous news - I am so glad for you and your association that you have been able to replace Timms’s spot with someone more qualified. I will update my site right now with the good news. I wasn’t sure if he was to be paid to speak, I was guessing with that one. It was never my intent to tarnish the name of SCPRSA. I wanted to make sure that a professional association such as yourself was not taken in by Mark Timms and his ongoing lies.
If ever you need my assistance, or that of VFTW’s, please do not hesitate to contact us. As you have seen, we’re a close knit group there and only too happy to help out others.
One day I hope to get to the States, I’ll be touring the countryside hugging Worsters
Have a great day.
And there you have it. SCPRSA are a fine association of professional, ethical people who work in the PR field. I am very happy they will never be affiliated with someone as unethical as Mark Timms.
Thank you, Kelly, for your prompt action and for letting us know the outcome.
